Port Louis Centre

In 1948, this central post office was strategically located along the famous thoroughfare Pope Hennessy Street in Port Louis. The street is named after the renowned Irish governor Sir John Pope Hennessy. Unlike the large harbor post office (built in 1868 by the quayside to handle maritime mail), the office on Pope Hennessy Street served as the primary service point for citizens, the business district, and the central administrative areas within the city itself.
