A lot of information on this site comes from the book "THE POSTAL HISTORY OF MAURITIUS" by Edward B. Proud. The book is written 2001 and a lot of information has turned up since then, especially Earliest Recorded Dates (ERD) and Latest Recorded Dates (LRD). There are also a lot of postmarks that was unknown when the book was issued and I have included a lot of new discoveries that other people and myself has found, but there are more to find out there. The content of this site stops at the same date as Proud's book does, that is 11th of March 1968.

About me

I am retired, married with two kids, now grown up.
I have been working as an electronic test engineer most of the time when working for companies such as Philips, Ericsson and Saab.
I have been playing handball and later on coaching & managing youngster teams.
I started more seriously with stamp collecting around 1980, collecting GB and later on the whole Commonwealth. When doing this I had a lot of Mauritius stamps, so I paid more attention to Mauritius. That started my interest in Mauritius postmarks and postal stationery and in the end stationery from the whole commonwealth.

I collect postmarks from all the post offices of Mauritius, both only stamps and on covers/cards.  The sad thing with collecting Mauritius is that it doesn't exist a club for that area now. Until a couple of years ago it existed an organisation called "Indian Ocean Study Circle" that I was a member of, but the club had problems with too few members and was closed down.
