It is still a mystery where and why the 'B32' canceller
was used. It was long time a common belief that it was used for registered or
plain international mail but since sometimes after the year 2000 it is a fact
that the 'B32' canceller was used for Mauritius internal mail as well.
Some people think that the canceller was used in a
counter at the Post Centre but still there are a lot of doubts where it was
used.
Another strange thing with this canceller is why 'B32'?
The format of the surcharge is similar to the first of the B53's produced on
the Island (Baker, Proud). The simple BONC 32
had already been issued to Pailles when the PO
was opened at the station in 1868. The B series BONC's were produced from 1881
to 1884 but they appear to be a slightly different format. A different format
B32 had been used at Buenos Ayres (Argentina)
but this PO was closed in 1873 so the number was "free" but this
assumes coordination with London
and agreement as to which number might be used. None of this provides any
answers but hopefully answers some of the most likely avenues of inquiry.
